The Nguluzane farm, in the Patrice Lumumba neighborhood, with 2,000 hectares and 800 head of cattle, was invaded by people from 24 neighborhoods in Xai-xai, the capital of Gaza.
The invaders made random plots and some constructions, but the landowner ordered them to be destroyed. Dissatisfied, the population gave the owner an ultimatum on Wednesday not to dare reoccupy the delimited spaces.
"We came here to give an ultimatum. We don't want to see any more cattle, tractors or their security in that space. Whatever the case, I've already said so," said one citizen.
The population claims that the site is abandoned and serves as a hiding place for criminals. The women complain of rape, as the forest is close to their fields.
A citizen interviewed by STV said that the land belongs to the state "and the state is us".
"His cattle are living well and we're suffering. Where are we going to live?" she asked, agreeing that they hadn't used any entity to buy the land.
Clerivaldo Moura, the company's representative, explained that the site now being invaded is an alternative to the low areas where cattle graze, especially during the rainy season.
"And right now I'm experiencing flooding and I can't be there in the lower area with the animals. The only place I have for the animals today is where it's being invaded," he said.
The parties have not yet reached a consensus, but the municipality is promising to find new zones for subdivision.
