The population of Ressano Garcia blocked the main road this morning after a citizen was allegedly picked up by unidentified agents of the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) in the early hours of the morning.

The reasons why "SERNIC" picked up Rodrigues Santos are still unknown, but what is certain is that people's tempers flared.

Footage we have seen shows tear gas being dispersed into the air by the Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR) after the popular uprising. There seems to have been shooting to kill, as lethal bullets are also said to have been fired.

Other sources say that the citizen in question is a supporter of Venancio Mondlane, the main opponent of the Frelimo regime.

The population is determined to maintain the blockade until the "kidnapped" citizen reappears.
