After several complaints from Moatize residents about air pollution resulting from the activities of the Vulcan mining company, the Indian company Vulcan went public this Thursday to guarantee that it was operating within the recommended standards.
According to the newspaper "O País", the Indian concessionaire explained that the intensity of the dust over the last two months was due to climatic effects in July and August.
He also pointed out that, as this is a semi-arid region, the wind also tends to change direction.
In the meantime, she explains that the company is still undergoing an internal audit, but guarantees that it is using new, improved dust control measures through advanced monitoring systems at all operational stages.
In order to definitively mitigate the impact of the dust on the affected communities, the company says that later this year it will start carrying out detonations without explosives, but says that negotiations are underway with the South African company that will test the technology.
Regarding the rejection of the compensation proposal presented to peasant families and potters, whose areas will be covered by the project to mine coal in the new section of the Chithata district, Vulcan promises to negotiate with the communities to avoid conflicts. (Source: O País)
