The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) said it was working to locate and rescue the 52-year-old citizen kidnapped on Saturday (01) in the city of Maputo.
The PRM clarified that the victim is not the owner of one of Maputo's popular china stores, Bazar Central, as had been reported in the media by various sources, but a relative of the businessman of Asian descent.
According to a VOASources present at the time and authorities report that people who were nearby at the time of the kidnapping threw stones at the kidnappers' car in an attempt to stop it, hitting the car's left side window after the kidnappers fired shots.
Around 150 businesspeople, mainly people of Asian descent, have been kidnapped in Mozambique since 2011 and a hundred have left the country out of fear of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA).
