Today, the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) surrounded the residence of presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane in an attempt to persuade him to remain at home.
"It took me a while to get there because there was a contingent surrounding me at my house. I only managed to lose them after about an hour," he said, after leaving the house.
Supporters of the candidate and the party that supports him, Podemos, flocked to the meeting place and then went to Venâncio Mondlane's house.
The crowd formed at the meeting place and the PRM riot police, which is being reinforced in Maputo City, fired tear gas once again. People dispersed to the arteries of Avenida Joaquim Chissano. The PRM surrounded the arteries and, for a few moments, cornered the demonstrators. The demonstrators complained about the police action once. This happened before Venâncio Mondlane arrived at the meeting place.
