MISA Mozambique met today with the new Chief Technician of the Democracy and Elections Project of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Mozambique, Vincent Da Cruz, with the aim of strengthening cooperation ties between the two institutions.
The meeting took place in an atmosphere of sharing and joint commitment to promoting freedom of the press, freedom of expression and human rights.
During the meeting, the parties expressed their mutual interest in deepening collaboration in strategic areas, with an emphasis on training Mozambican journalists. Among the priority themes identified are digital rights, cybersecurity, combating disinformation and mitigating hate speech in the digital environment, challenges that are increasingly present in the national media context.
The Executive Director of MISA Mozambique, Ernesto Nhanale, highlighted the crucial role that media professionals play in consolidating democracy and peace, especially at a time when the country is facing post-election tensions and increasing polarization in the public debate.
For his part, Vincent Da Cruz reaffirmed his program's commitment to promoting more inclusive, resilient and informed societies, stressing the importance of ethical, safe and fact-based information.
Strengthening this partnership aims not only to protect journalists' rights, but also to contribute to a healthier information ecosystem committed to democratic principles. (Press release)
