PNG receives first batch of RNM buffaloes

On Saturday (17), the Gilé National Park (PNG) received 48 buffaloes out of the 200 that are to be moved from the Marromeu National Reserve in Sofala to the PNG in Zambezia. 

The arrival operation was witnessed by the Secretary of State for Zambezia, Cristina Mafumo.

The Secretary of State hopes that the arrival of the animals will attract tourists to Gilé National Park and the province.

"It's a big challenge that Gilé National Park has, given the objectives that we are aiming to achieve, which is to boost tourism in our province, but also to welcome our tourists to come and see the animals, thus contributing to our economic development process, but also to raise the name of our province through our tourists," she said.

For his part, the Director General of the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC)

"This is a process that is part of the rehabilitation program at the level of the national network of ecosystem conservation areas. For the specific case of PNG, ANAC started in 2022 where we had the opportunity to translocate some buffaloes, zebras and ox-horses," said the Director General of ANAC, Pejul Calenga.
