PlayStation's online service comes with a new version. It brings together the current PlayStation Plus services and PlayStation Now. The new rival to Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass will be called PlayStation Plus. What's more, it adds two new subscription plans for console users.
PlayStation Plus offers subscribers two free games a month on the initial plan, Essential, including exclusive discounts, storage of game recordings in the cloud, and the ability to play online.
The second PlayStation Plus package is Extra, which has all the benefits of the first, but with additional possibilities for players.
With this plan it will be possible to access a catalog of up to 400 games released for the PlayStation 4, with Sony noting that the titles in question were produced by its own studios and some of its major partners.
Finally, gamers will also be able to subscribe to PlayStation Plus Premium which, in addition to the benefits of the other two plans, has more arguments to convince gamers aficionados. This third plan allows access to limited periods to try out certain titles.
However, the big news is the ability to initially enjoy 340 PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation and PSP games accessible via streaming - with only titles from the latter three platforms being available for download.
It is known that among the titles that players will be able to find at the launch of the Extra and Premium plans are some of the most celebrated titles on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, namely 'Death Stranding', 'God of War', 'Marvel's Spider-Man', 'Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales', 'Mortal Kombat 11' and 'Returnal'.
"With these plans, our primary focus is to ensure that the hundreds of games we offer include the best quality content that sets us apart," the statement from PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, shared by PlayStation Blog, reads.
All three PlayStation Plus plans will be available starting in June in Asia, and will later be released in North America, Europe, and the rest of the world.
