Matters of electoral litigation require the intervention of the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP), in the view of the Attorney General's Office (PGR), to ensure legality when they are dealt with in the first instances of district courts and, in the second instances, in the Constitutional Council.
This perspective, as the NewsThis will be presented to parliament on Wednesday by the Attorney General, Beatriz Buchili.
According to a document quoted by the newspaper, the MP's intervention needs further clarification under the terms of the electoral legislation in force, which gives rise to disparate interpretations, especially among law enforcers.
"As the Public Prosecutor's Office has constitutional and legal powers, it is our understanding that it should also intervene in the contentious appeal, issuing an opinion on the legality of the request," reads the newspaper.
