PGR may issue arrest warrant for Venâncio Mondlane, CIP investigator predicts

PGR pode emitir mandado de captura contra Venâncio Mondlane, antevê investigador do CIP

The Attorney General's Office (PGR) could soon issue an arrest warrant for presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane, according to the forecasts of an investigator from the Center for Public Integrity (CIP).

Edson Cortês, the NGO's director-general, believes that the PGR is acting in the interests of the Frelimo party, which has ruled the country since 1975, the year of the country's independence from Portuguese colonial rule.

"I'm not surprised that the legal department of the Frelimo party, which is the PGR, - because it behaves like that, is sending an arrest warrant for Venâncio Mondlane. It's almost done. You'll see," he said.

Cortês was speaking at CIP's debate program, called CIP Elections, on Thursday.

The researcher also criticized the fact that Frelimo, "which is the biggest cancer of the country's development," does not create public policies for the benefit of the majority.

According to the researcher, the Frelimo government will always face public discontent as long as the concerns of the majority are not resolved.
