Three hundred and twenty-six employees from various companies submitted complaints to the Center for Labor Mediation and Arbitration in Maputo City for unfair dismissal and lack of compensation in the first quarter of this year.

In the period in question, the institution received 685 petitions from workers against their employers. Of this number, 359 were complaints about lack of employment contracts, payment of wages or conflicts over termination of contracts.

The security sector is the one with the highest number of cases of labor disputes, including trade and services.

"These are situations that have usually occurred to us. Regardless of whether there is just cause for the employer to terminate the contract, the law requires that disciplinary proceedings be initiated," said COMAL Director Lourenço Mauai.

Last year, 2,650 petitions were registered, compared to 2,276 in 2022. "In 2023 there was an increase of around 408 cases, equivalent to 1.5%".
