A passenger on an Angolan airline TAAG flight died in the early hours of Saturday morning on the connection between Luanda, Angola, and Maputo, Mozambique. The death was declared after the plane landed.
According to Notícias ao Minuto, quoting the Angolan airline's statement, on flight DT5781, which took place in the early hours of November 8, there was a “medical emergency on board by an adult Angolan passenger,” who was accompanied by her husband.
“On learning of the passenger's condition, the crew acted immediately, providing first aid and also requesting emergency medical support on arrival,” the note reads.
However, “the competent medico-legal authorities in Mozambique ended up declaring the passenger dead on the spot”.
“The airport health services and, subsequently, the investigating authorities carried out investigations” on board the plane, “in order to gather evidence about the causes of death”.
According to the same statement, once the legal procedures had been completed, “the aircraft was properly sanitized and disinfected in accordance with the applicable regulations”.
“The company expresses its most heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the passenger, reiterating its full collaboration with the Mozambican authorities, as well as monitoring new developments with the bereaved family,” concludes the TAAG statement.
