The Minister of the Interior, Pascoal Ronda, acknowledged today in Maputo that it is difficult to control the post-election demonstrations in order to maintain peace in the country, which is why the President of the Republic is making efforts.
"It's not easy. Just yesterday we had Bobole closed, since the day before yesterday, but we managed to open it. Today, Maputo province is blocked, but we're working to remove all these obstacles," he said.
Ronda wondered, on the other hand, how a citizen outside the country could propose to "go against the majority". He also said that those who join the strikes are less conscious people, mostly young people in an altered state of mind.
Why should one person alone, who thinks he has the truth with him and can impose himself on many people who have their feelings to respect?
"Mr. Venâncio isn't here, he's out of this country, and from where he is he's sending messages, invitations, for people to take part in acts like these. More conscious people don't join in. But less aware people, young people above all, who consume drinks, not the best ones, who consume drugs and appear as abnormal people to carry out acts. So the picture isn't the best, but if the legal framework was respected, we could reach a good outcome," said Ronda, speaking during a meeting at the Presidency of the Republic between Filipe Nyusi and representatives of the Muslim community.
"There are challenges - which are legal. This is all being worked on. But there are those who don't have the patience to listen or know what the outcome will be. The government has been making the necessary effort, appealing to everyone to contain themselves as Mozambicans and to believe in the institutions. If anyone has a reason, let them justify it, whether they won or not," said Ronda.
For his part, the Head of State regretted the deaths of civilians and police officers.
