Opposition parties announced today in Maputo, in a joint statement, their alignment in marches and demonstrations that are intended to be peaceful, to demand the centralized results put forward by the National Electoral Commission (CNE).
This is the first time that the opposition has joined forces, and the highlight is the presence of Renamo and Movimento Democrático de Moçambique (MDM) parliamentarians and the extra-parliamentary Nova Democracia (ND), which joined the Podemos party. It should be remembered that recently the president of the MDM, Lutero Simango, announced that if the electoral truth was not restored, the last alternative would be to join the marches and demonstrations. The president of Renamo, Ossufo Momade, has also shown openness in this direction.
The parties are unanimous in saying that the general elections of October 9 were fraudulent, full of irregularities and did not reflect the will of the people.
United, the opposition parties reject the results announced by the CNE as flawed; they demand respect for the electoral will; they demand a forensic audit for the benefit of electoral truth and criminal liability for the main leaders of the electoral administration bodies.
"Until justice and electoral truth are restored by the Constitutional Council, the peaceful demonstrations will continue in a coordinated and organized manner by all the opposition and declarant political parties," said Diniz Tivane, a representative of Podemos.
"This joint declaration expresses not only the unity of all the opposition parties, but also that of the people who have seen their rights and their will vandalized by the electoral bodies... together we must march until the electoral truth is restored," said Salomão Muchanga, president of ND.
