The Portuguese Parliament recommends that the government does not recognize the results from Mozambique. The resolution, submitted by the Liberal Initiative (IL), was approved this Friday in general by the Portuguese Parliament and asks the Portuguese government not to recognize the results of the general elections in Mozambique, writes the Público newspaper.
The IL draft resolution was approved with the PCP voting against, the PS, PSD and CDS-PP abstaining and the Chega, IL, Bloco de Esquerda (BE) and Livre voting in favor.
According to the Portuguese Parliament, the Mozambican elections of October 9, "were marked by suspicions of irregularities that call into question their legitimacy and transparency", and were followed by legitimate peaceful protests that were increasingly and violently repressed by the authorities".
However, IL adds that the post-election period in Mozambique was marked by an alarming intensification of political repression and state violence.
Meanwhile, according to a publication by the Center for Public Integrity (CIP), another resolution by Chega, a far-right party, calls for a "transparent recount" of the votes. However, according to Público newspaper, the draft resolutions will be discussed in the specialty and are only recommendations to the government, but are yet another sign of pressure for the Portuguese state not to validate the results of the October 9 elections.
