The Assembly of the Republic has approved the proposal to revise the Electoral Law regarding the election of the President of the Republic, as well as the powers of the Constitutional Council (CC) and district courts.
With the approval, the CC is now the only body with the autonomy to decide to annul and/or repeat the vote where necessary. In turn, the district courts now have the autonomy to order the recounting of votes where necessary.
Under the new law, the National Electoral Commission is responsible for verifying the legality and validity of electoral acts. And unanswered complaints should not prevent votes from being counted.
Citizens who allow double voting and those who vote twice will be punished with prison sentences of between six and 18 months and a fine of between four and six minimum wages.
