Renamo President Ossufo Momade could lose benefits worth 71 million meticais a year if his party loses its position as the second most voted member of parliament.
The political formation could also see its powers of legislative influence, such as appointing the second vice-president of the Assembly of the Republic, appointing judge advisors to the Constitutional Council (CC), the Superior Council of the Public Prosecutor's Office, and the Superior Council of the Judiciary.
The list of losses for Renamo includes not being able to be represented on the Council of State, the National Defense and Security Council, the National Human Rights Commission, appointing four of the 17 members of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) and the position of vice-president of the CNE.
Renamo has been losing seats in parliament since the 1999 elections, when it had 117, in 2004 it fell to 90, in 2009 it slipped to 51, in 2014 it won 89, and in 2019 it won 60.
The central results of the 2024 general elections indicate that Renamo suffered its biggest defeat ever, with 20 seats reserved in parliament, below Podemos with 31 and Frelimo with 195.
However, these predicted losses for Renamo can only become real if the CC validates the centralized results released by the CNE.
