The President of Renamo, Ossufo Momade, has given in to pressure from his members in Sofala province and dismissed the Provincial Delegate, Horácio Calavete, over allegations of a lack of professionalism.
A committee of delegates from Nhamatanda, Dondo and Beira has been appointed to define the party's destiny from now until January 2025, when a new leader will be appointed.
Momade's decision follows the sending of a commission led by Hermínio Morais to investigate the removal of the provincial political delegate without the authorization of the party president.
According to Morais, Renamo members "no longer agreed with the Delegate's behavior. They claim that the Delegate was being arrogant. He wasn't accessible to the media. And that, above all, he didn't reach out to the electorate".
This year, Renamo recorded its lowest election results ever in Sofala province.
