The president of Renamo, Ossufo Momade, said this Thursday (16) in Nampula, during the II Ordinary Session of the party's National Council, that part of the problems faced by the political formation are the result of the failure to comply with the promises made by the international community as part of the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) process..
According to Momade, European ambassador Miko Manzoni allegedly failed to implement the commitments he had made, which slowed down progress on several points of the peace agreement.
"Our contribution was to guarantee the right to set pensions for demobilized combatants, the integration of officers into the ranks of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique and the creation of income-generating projects for our demobilized. Unfortunately, the process is at a standstill because the international community, represented by ambassador Miko Manzoni, isn't keeping its promises," lamented the Partridge leader.
Quoted by the portal NganiOssufo Momade added that the social situation of ex-combatants remains a priority for Renamo, stressing that the definition and payment of pensions "does not depend on the party, but on the government". "It's not fair to fuel intrigue and hatred by unfairly blaming those who have always defended the welfare of our combatants," he said.
The leader called for unity within Renamo, reiterating that internal differences should not override the party's main objective of winning the 2028 and 2029 elections. "Any differences must be overcome. Our commitment is to victory and to the future of Mozambique," he said.
On another front, Ossufo Momade once again assured that he does not intend to step down as Renamo leader, contrary to rumors about a possible resignation. "We are not going to give in to internal pressure. Our leadership is attentive to the life of the party and will continue to defend cohesion and respect for the statutes," he declared.
