Opposition at CNE banned from entering rooms processing registration and voting material

Oposição na CNE proibida de entrar nas salas de processamento de material de recenseamento e votação

Members of the opposition who make up the decision-making structure of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) are restricted from accessing places where registration and voting material is processed.

"It's a place where our technicians don't enter. They are only there to comply with the law: that the technicians are there during the period of the electoral process, when the electoral calendar has already started," revealed Renamo's senior member, Fernando Mazanga,

The vice-president of the CNE made the revelation on Monday on the CIP Cast program of the Center for Public Integrity, where he said that the CNE is instrumentalized by the Technical Secretariat of the Electoral Administration.

"I have no doubt about that. We are STAE employees. Where the results are hammered out is in STAE, and then supported [by a party in the CNE], and then they position themselves with the cleanest," he said.

In fact, STAE should be subordinate to the CNE, but according to Mazanga, the roles are reversed.

"The CNE should be in charge. But when it has people who don't know its real value and power, this is what happens. I want to make it clear that... all those powers of the CNE are not being exercised, because in the CNE there are sparks, debates that surpass those in the Assembly of the Republic," he said.
