ONP awaits outcome of negotiations with government

ONP aguarda desfecho das negociações com Governo

The National Teachers' Organization (ONP), the largest body that brings together teachers at national level, is awaiting the outcome of ongoing negotiations with the government, but in the meantime says it is ready to start activities in the current school year.

Speaking to "Notícias", the Secretary General of the ONP, Teodoro Muidumbe, spoke about the alleged demonstrations that took place around the country yesterday, saying that "there is no turbulence within the class, despite the fact that the problems it faces have already been put to the Executive, from whom a resolution is expected soon".

"The ONP has the appropriate mechanisms to deal with these issues. We are in contact with the government, so we call on everyone to remain calm and focused on their work. We assure you that the teachers will be present at the opening of the school year," he said.

Meanwhile, teachers affiliated to ANAPRO and APU marched again yesterday with the aim of reminding the government of the need to solve some of the problems they are facing, in particular overtime pay.
