The World Health Organization (WHO) reiterates that breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways of ensuring infant health and survival.
The WHO's warning comes on the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week, which runs until August 7, to promote breastfeeding as a way of keeping babies healthy and supporting mothers.
The UN agency points out, however, that currently less than half of babies under six months are exclusively breastfed.
This year's World Breastfeeding Week, under the slogan "Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures", highlights breast milk as a powerful foundation for lifelong health, development and equity. (UN News)
