Observatory of the Rural Environment concerned for children and women in the Cabo Delgado region

The Observatory of the Rural Environment (OMR) warns about the serious impacts of terrorism in Cabo Delgado province in the extreme north of the country. The organization denounces the mistreatment of mostly women and children in the areas affected by armed insurgency.

It has been five years that terrorists act in several districts of Cabo Delgado province and more recently in Niassa and Nampula provinces. But it is in Cabo Delgado where the Observatory of the Rural Environment focuses its attention on the treatment that is given to citizens, especially women and children, who suffer various violations by terrorists as well as the Defense and Security Forces.

Neuza Balane is a researcher at the Rural Environment Observatory: " they are raped, they are beaten, they suffer various types of hostility from these entities, entities that once should protect them, but they are the ones who incite new dynamics of violence or new configurations of violence. So the women who feel the physical violence in a direct way are the women girls or teenagers who are kidnapped."

Kidnapped and forced to contract marriages in the insurgents' bases. A call for attention made by the Observatory of the Rural Environment during the sixth international conference of the Institute for Social and Economic Studies IESE which ran from Monday to Wednesday in Maputo.
