The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, said on his return from Russia on Sunday that Mozambique is "willing" to contribute to peace in the conflict in Ukraine and promised to talk to Ukrainian leaders as well.
On his arrival in Maputo, after a trip that last week took in Tanzania, Russia and Rwanda, the head of state explained that in St. Petersburg he left a message: "We have put Mozambique at our disposal to do whatever we can to help contribute to peace in Europe. We said no to war. We said no to attacks. We said yes to dialogue, we give our experience".
Quoted by Lusa, Filipe Nyusi was one of the 17 African heads of state to attend the Russia/Africa summit - having met with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin - but he guaranteed, on arrival in Mozambique, that he would do the same for Ukraine.
"We've already been doing it, because Mozambique is for peace, Mozambique is for development," he added.
Last week, the Mozambican head of state traveled to Tanzania to present the country's example at the World Bank's Human Capital Development in Africa summit.
"What we ourselves sometimes don't see. But others see what we are doing and recognize it. And that recognition is an encouragement for us to do more," said the head of state, already in Maputo.
On his way back from St. Petersburg, Filipe Nyusi was received on Saturday in Kigali by his Rwandan counterpart, Paul Kagame.
"My friends, my colleagues, flew there directly from their countries and arrived. They have planes, they have the conditions," he said of Russia's return to Maputo.
In Kigali, the head of state visited enterprises accompanied by Paul Kagame and watched the Mozambique women's team play in the African basketball championship.
