Nyusi says there is room for freedom of expression and demonstration in Mozambique

Nyusi diz haver espaço para liberdade de expressão e manifestação em Moçambique

The President of the Republic (PR) said yesterday that there is room in the country for the enjoyment of freedom of expression and the right to demonstrate within the parameters of the laws in force in the country.

Filipe Nyusi was speaking at a virtual meeting with Mozambican ambassadors accredited to the diaspora, in which he presented an overview of the latest political and social developments in the country.

On the occasion, the head of state called on the population, especially young people, not to allow themselves to be manipulated into solving the problems of individuals or groups.

In the same vein, he urged political parties to turn to the legal institutions in order to file electoral disputes.

"The government calls on the contestants to use the competent means and bodies, based on the matter, to settle electoral disputes and discourage the creation of strikes or demonstrations that not only lead the country backwards, cause damage, endanger peace, instability and public security," he appealed.
