Nyusi challenges CC members to work on the basis of the law

Nyusi desafia membros do CC a trabalhar com base da lei

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, is demanding changes in the way the process has been conducted, especially with regard to legality.

"The Constitutional Council's greatest challenge in this process is to guarantee the legality and fairness of the disputes throughout the electoral process, as a guarantor of our unitary state.

This challenge is exacerbated by a salutary characteristic of modern democracies based on the civic participation of citizens, the democratic control of institutions and the commitment to the law," said Nyusi.

Nyusi was speaking this Wednesday on the sidelines of the swearing-in of the governing body of the Constitutional Council, made up of the president and the advisory judges.

According to Nyusi, "in a competition, everyone prepares to win, but the judge must work with the regulations, with what is legislated."

The President of the Constitutional Council, Lúcia Ribeiro, who has headed the Constitutional Council since 2019, believes that mastery of electoral legislation is a key element for this body to perform better.
