Mphanda Nkuwa: Nyusi invites Hichilema to take part in hydroelectric project

Mphanda Nkuwa: Nyusi convida Hichilema para participar de projecto hidroeléctrico

This Thursday (27) in Lusaka, Zambia, the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, invited his Zambian counterpart, Hakainde Hichilema, to take part in the Mphanda Nkuwa hydroelectric project in Tete province.

The design of the project is still in its early stages and Mozambique wants Zambia to join the initiative.

"A project is now under construction that will lead to the construction of a new hydroelectric power station, more or less the size of Cahora Bassa, and it will be called Mphanda Nkuwa. We are inviting Zambia to see if it can understand this project, if it is of interest, to be part of the project because often when you are part of it, it is easy to accompany, to sustain, it is easy to opt for use," said Nyusi, quoted by the Radio Mozambique.

Visiting Zambia for three days on Wednesday, the meetings between the statesmen and their delegations were dominated by issues of bilateral cooperation. In Nyusi's view, the two countries share dreams.

"Some things were about continuity, others we're thinking about now. I warmly welcomed the president's vision, especially in the context of the partnership he is creating for the Lobito corridor. President Hichilema's vision is very important and should be encouraged and capitalized on because he is thinking of an Africa that works for itself and future generations," he said.

At the meeting, the two statesmen expressed their willingness to promote the dry port projects that Zambia is to build in our country, in order to boost their economies.

Another issue discussed at the meeting between the two delegations is the signing of a memorandum of understanding on joint conservation areas between the borders of Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema said that cooperation between the two countries would contribute to the development of the region.
