The Minister of the Interior, Paulo Chachine, appointed this Wednesday (19), new directors of the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) and heads at central and provincial level, who have been given the mission of giving greater dynamism to preventing, combating and investigating organized and transnational crime, especially kidnapping crimes, which are increasingly crystallizing the feeling of insecurity and impunity in Mozambique.
"The crime of kidnapping has been challenging your investigative capacity and, in recent times, is a major concern for everyone due to its consequences, particularly on families and the country's economy," said Chachine during the event.
The government official, quoted by AIMHe also said that there was an urgent need to adopt more vigorous measures in the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism and related crimes, through the scrupulous application of special investigation techniques and other modern mechanisms in the fight against organized and transnational crime.
In this context, the minister demanded that SERNIC act robustly and intelligently, in order to deal with the multiplicity of actors and modus operandi, associated with the illicit use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and financial technologies to commit crimes and the constant malleability of organized crime networks and syndicates.
"These challenges must also be overcome with a committed and audacious SERNIC, which puts the interests of an organization based on discipline and free of corruption and related acts first, and which is capable of driving the changes we crave," he said.
Chachine reminded SERNIC of the need to speed up the presentation of the Project for the Creation of the Unit for the Prevention and Combat of Organized and Transnational Crime, an activity that is part of the first 100 days of government.
