New bridge over the Save will link Gaza and Manica

Nova ponte sobre o “Save” vai ligar Gaza e Manica

Plans are underway to build a new bridge over the Save River to link the districts of Massingir, in Gaza province, and Mussurize and Machaze, in Manica, as an alternative to National Road Number One (N1)..

To this end, consultancy services have just been awarded the contract to draw up the preliminary project and supervise the infrastructure works and the respective accesses, on the R441 road, in both provinces.

The work in question is budgeted at just over 52 million meticais, financed by the government, and will be carried out by the company Civil e Planning Group Moçambique.

As "Notícias" has learned, the construction of the bridge is in line with the government's strategy to create an alternative road to the EN1, passing through Macie, Chókwè, Guijá, Mabalane, Mapai, Massingir, Mussurize, Chimoio to Muxúnguè or Inchope, i.e. a south and north link.

The planned section will start in the district of Bilene and go as far as Inchope, bypassing the province of Inhambane, which will shorten distances for people leaving northern Gaza.

This alternative road could be included in the government's next Five-Year Program, to be approved by Parliament, to ensure that the investments needed for the operation are discussed.

However, it is known that it has already started the process of mobilizing funding to carry out the initiative, because the country can no longer depend on a single road, since any anomalous situation on the road creates constraints for traffic. (News)
