The health authorities reported 81,000 new HIV infections in 2023, representing an improvement in the country's efforts to prevent and control the disease.
Figures from the National Council for Combating HIV and AIDS, quoted by "Notícias", indicate that of the cases diagnosed, 69,000 were in individuals over the age of 15 and the remaining 12,000 in children between the ages of 0 and 14.
A comparison with the statistics for 2022, when 91,000 cases were recorded, shows a decrease of 10,99%.
In addition to the reduction in the number of new cases of the disease, there has also been a decrease in HIV/AIDS-related deaths. (News)
