Nos últimos 5 dias: PRM deteve 77 indivíduos em conexão com manifestações

The General Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) announced yesterday (9) the arrest of 77 individuals in connection with various crimes committed over the last five days of demonstrations.

The spokesman for the PRM General Command also said that the demonstrations had resulted in the destruction of five police posts.

"In the last five days, there have been 170 cases of serious disturbances to public order in the country, the consequences of which have been the total destruction, using home-made bombs, of several public and private buildings, in particular five police stations, four administrative offices and a Registry and Notary Office, the invasion and vandalization of a prison, the arson of four homes and 47 people injured, both lightly and seriously," he said.

In the aftermath of the last five days, the spokesman for the General Command of the Police lamented that the demonstrators continue to block access roads, prohibiting the normal movement of people.

"PODEMOS members and sympathizers, instigated by Venâncio Mondlane, continue to perpetrate acts of violence, vandalism and sabotage throughout the country, disturbing public peace, order and security and the free movement of people and goods," said the spokesman for the PRM General Command.

Mozambique is going through difficult times, due to the demonstrations called by presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane two months ago, in protest at the election results announced by the National Electoral Commission, which gave victory to Frelimo and its candidate, Daniel Chapo.
