Nini Satar is the mastermind behind his own assassination attempt, defendant reveals

Today, two Defense and Security Forces officers involved in the attempted murder of Nini Satar are being questioned.

The defendant Edson Muianga said during the trial that Nini Satar was the mastermind of the attempt on his life, in February 2022, at the Maximum Security Prison, "B.O.", in the city of Matola (Machava), Maputo province, where the trial is taking place.

Before the judge in the case, Lucílio Nhanombe, he explained that this case was planned by Nini Satar himself. As a judge, Nini Satar identified himself as a Zimbabwean citizen.

When he received the plan to attempt the murder of Nini Satar from a colleague, whom he identified as Lenin, he questioned the reasons for the scheme. He was told that Nini Satar had drawn up the plan to show a certain insecurity inside the prison where he is serving a 24-year sentence for his involvement in the murder of journalist Carlos Cardoso, Radio Mozambique (RM) reported this afternoon.

Muianga confessed that he had agreed to take part in "the alleged Nini Satar assassination plot" in exchange for money, according to RM.

During questioning, Edson Muianga revealed that the simulation plan had the help of an agent from the National Penitentiary Service (SERNAP) who facilitated the delivery of a cell phone to the inmates who collaborated in the plan.

He also said he was surprised when, during the course of the scheme, he was arrested on March 19, 2022, in the company of two fellow members of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, including José Ngulele.

The defendant claimed that while in prison, Nini Satar threatened him with death so that he could record audio recordings to confirm his involvement in the murder scheme, with promises that he would later be given a lawyer and that everything would return to normal.

Muianga also claimed that during the threats he was coerced into naming big names in the Mozambican government as the masterminds of the crime, which he refused to do.
