Niassa province is beginning to assume a strategic role in the economy of northern Mozambique, leaving behind the image of a “distant province” to assert itself as the new point of convergence of the so-called Development Triangle - a territorial alliance that includes Niassa, Nampula and Cabo Delgado, with the aim of boosting agricultural production, the circulation of goods and the expansion of regional markets..
Since Tuesday (04), the province has been hosting a Swedish government mission to the NEXUS Niassa project, funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) and implemented by UN-Habitat in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
According to Ngani Newspaper, The visit, received by the director of the Governor's Office, Celestina Teófilo, representing Governor Elina Judite Massengele, has the main objective of assessing the progress of the interventions on the ground and strengthening cooperation for joint solutions in the areas of economic mobility, strategic infrastructures and productive inclusion.
One of the central focuses of the mission is the Marrupa-Nipepe-Namecuna corridor, which is considered vital for agricultural flows and supplying rural communities. The collapse of the Morrico bridge, which limits the movement of goods and makes local commerce more expensive, will be one of the topics highlighted in the technical discussions and field visits.
According to the organizers, the presence of the Swedish delegation represents not only international recognition of Niassa's potential, but also a sign of institutional trust and openness to new structuring investments.
The province is thus consolidating its position as the country's agricultural capital and a key player in the economic integration of northern Mozambique, transforming transport corridors into axes of local income and sustainable development.
