Five people lost their lives and as many were injured, three of them seriously, in a road accident that took place today in the district of Chimbonila, Niassa province.
The accident occurred at around 2.45 a.m. on the EN14, a few meters after the bridge over the Chimbonila River, involving a heavy goods vehicle of the Hino brand, model Ranger, with registration plates AIN- 997-MP, according to "Notícias".
The 40-year-old driver did not have a driving license.
The driver was driving in the Mussa/Lichinga direction. When he arrived at the scene, the truck's right front tire blew out, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and then crash.
The police say that excessive speed is the possible cause of the accident.
In the meantime, the victims were taken to Lichinga Provincial Hospital, where the five deaths were confirmed and the three seriously injured were admitted, while the two lightly injured were treated on an outpatient basis. (News)
