Nespresso has just added another distinction to its range of awards: "Most Sustainable Company in the Coffee Processing Industry by 2021".. Awarded by World Finance Magazine, this international prize, as marketeer reports, establishes that Nespresso is the coffee brand with the best sustainability practices globally.
"I am proud of the achievements we have already made in sustainable coffee production as well as in capsule recycling, carbon footprint reduction and agro-forestry initiatives in coffee producing regions. I am very happy about this recognition by World Finance Magazine. Innovation and collective actions are the key to this decisive decade," comments Jérôme Perez, Nespresso's Chief Sustainability Officer.
Following the motto #SustainableCoffee, the company has been working to make its business more environmentally friendly and socially responsible. An example of this will be the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality Program, developed in partnership with the Rainforest Alliance, which ensures 93% permanent range coffee.
As for capsule recycling, the latest data shows that at the end of last year, the worldwide rate was 32%. This is an increase of 17% compared to 2014.
Also noteworthy is the 24% reduction in the carbon footprint of a Nespresso cup of coffee and the investment in renewable energy and eco-friendly designs.
"The jury recognized Nespresso's alignment with the Paris Agreement, its contribution on 11 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), its approach to sustainability and its initiatives aimed at carbon neutrality," explains Monika Wojcik, Head of Special Projects at World Finance Magazine.
