The province of Nampula, located in northern Mozambique, will soon have a center of excellence for malaria and pest control, to be built in the town of Topuito, in the district of Larde.
The announcement comes after the signing this Monday (17) of a memorandum of understanding between FUMILAR and Moz Parks to put the initiative into effect. The act was witnessed by the governor of Nampula, Eduardo Mariamo Abdula, who guaranteed full support for the initiative, so that it can be implemented on schedule, as well as contributing to the prevention and fight against malaria in the province.
For FUMILAR's executive director, Nelson Nkini, the initiative "is a transformative project for public health and sustainable development in Nampula province" and has the support of the Catalytic Fund, through the Connecta Negócios project, and the partnership of Kenmare and Moz Parks.
"This center of excellence will not only be a scientific research center, but also a hub for innovation and collaboration," said Nelson Nkini, quoted by the portal IkweliHe said that "we have the opportunity to develop more effective solutions to combat malaria and other vector-borne diseases, and also to study and implement new ways of controlling pests that threaten health, agriculture and the quality of life in our communities".
Malaria has been one of the main causes of hospitalizations and demand for health services in Nampula province.
