Nampula: SERNIC arrests three individuals for trafficking and illegal possession of protected species

Nampula: SERNIC detém três indivíduos por tráfico e posse ilegal de espécie protegida

The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC), in the city of Nacala, Nampula province, has arrested three individuals accused of the crime of slaughtering and illegally trafficking pangolim, an animal that is part of the protected species.

According to a publication on the IkweliThe individuals were found red-handed while trying to sell the banned animal last Friday (09) in the city of Nacala.

Speaking at a press conference, SERNIC's spokesperson in Nampula, Enina Tsinine, said that "these individuals were arrested when they intended to exchange money, and when they realized the presence of the police, one of them ended up fleeing".

On the occasion, the source also expressed concern about illegal crimes that have been gaining ground in the cities of Nampula and Nacala, allegedly because this is the second case of the arrest of individuals involved in the same type of crime.

"The trade has not only been in the port city of Nacala, but throughout the country. In Nampula, this is the second time that Nacala has made an arrest," he added.
