A 10-year-old child, named E.J., gave birth to her first child this week at the Central Hospital in Nampula, Nampula province.

The mother was born on January 1, 2015, and is from Mecubúri. She and the baby are doing well.

According to a relative, E.J. was sexually assaulted by someone close to the family who deceived her. “Our older brother married [the accused's] daughter. He's a 34-year-old man. He's being held in Mecubúri. This is the third month,” he said, quoted by Success TV.

The interviewee explained that the girl's state of health was indicative of an abnormality. But the local health units and traditional doctors treated the case lightly.

“I found out I was almost four months pregnant,” she said, regretting the case.
