On average, 40 to 50 young people, most of them male, are lured to join the terrorist group that has been operating in Cabo Delgado province for more than five years, said the PRM Provincial Commander in Nampula, António Bashir.
The provincial commander, who was speaking a few days ago at the twenty-fourth session of the Nampula Development Observatory, said that he had recently received a report that a group of 49 young people, recruited in Nampula to join the terrorist ranks, had been found on one of the islands of Cabo Delgado, according to the newspaper Notícias.
"When it seems that everything is calm, there are still people who are grooming young people to join the terrorists in Cabo Delgado. We're having a huge problem. Every day, we have 40 to 50 young people returned from the ranks of recruitment in Cabo Delgado. We are worried and today, for example, I received a message that 49 young people were found on the islands of Cabo Delgado, allegedly to go fishing," he said, quoted by the newspaper.
Faced with this scenario, the commander of the PRM in Nampula advocates raising awareness among society so that it doesn't allow itself to be lured by terrorists.
The province of Nampula received more than 60,000 displaced people, victims of the terrorist attacks in Cabo Delgado, and also suffered incursions, specifically in the district of Memba, where an 84-year-old sister of the Catholic church was murdered, in addition to the destruction of homes.
It should be noted that studies suggest that some of the members of terrorist groups operating in Cabo Delgado are not only from that province, but also from Nampula, especially from the coastal districts, including foreigners.
