The Optimist Party for the Development of Mozambique (PODEMOS), which supports the presidential candidacy of Venâncio Mondlane, accuses the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) of fatally shooting 64 people in the northern province of Nampula during demonstrations that have been taking place since October 21.
Speaking yesterday, Thursday (19), the provincial delegate of PODEMOS in Nampula, Castro Niquina, denounced that members of that political formation are being persecuted, especially those who live in the district of Mogovolas, by alleged agents of the PRM, as well as members of the Frelimo party.
"We are having police who are turning into death squads, where instead of protecting they are killing people, we are having so many people who are being massacred. The provincial commander of Nampula is the biggest executioner, you can see that in Mozambique, in a universe of 11 provinces, out of an average of 150 deaths, Nampula alone is adding up to more than 60," said Castro Niquina, in a publication on the portal Ikweli.
At the time, the source revealed that a leader in the province was hiring a total of 150 young people living in the Namicopo neighborhood to commit what he called atrocities, vandalizing public and private property and then blaming the PODEMOS party.
"Let's be clear that all the vandalizing that's done has never been done by us, they are infiltrators, prepared by the regime to find a reason to brand us as vandals so that the community sees Venâncio Mondlane as the person who is ruining the country."
On Monday, the 23rd of this month, the Constitutional Council, the last appeal body in the electoral process, will come to the public to validate and proclaim the results of the elections held on October 9. In this sense, if the Frelimo party and its candidate, Daniel Chapo, are proclaimed the winners, "the people cannot accept it", having stated that the demonstrations that have been affecting the country do not belong to the party, but to the citizens who are disgusted with the regime of the day.
"It's not us, or Venâncio Mondlane, who are going to dictate the next steps, the people have understood and are rejecting Frelimo, it must hand over the key, that's the only solution," concluded Niquina.
