A group of young activists, mobilized by civil society organizations, held a peaceful march through the streets of Nampula this Saturday (14), in solidarity with the victims of sexual abuse and academic corruption denounced at the Rovuma University branch in Montepuez, Cabo Delgado province..
Holding placards with messages such as "Human rights are inalienable. Let's all protect them" and "Justice for the victims of abuse in Montepuez. We are all equal before the law", the young people demanded effective accountability for the aggressors and concrete measures from the Mozambican authorities.
According to a Rigor newspaperThe march began at the Parque Popular garden and ended at the Rovuma University headquarters, where the activists allowed themselves to be photographed with their signs, in a symbolic gesture calling for justice and the protection of human rights in academia.
Among the organizations that have joined the movement are the Kóxukhuro Association, the Solidarity Movement, Galamukani and other human rights and social justice organizations, which have been following the unfolding of the scandal involving teachers accused of sexual harassment and selling grades.
The organizations reiterate their commitment to continuing to monitor the case and demand that the Mozambican state guarantee an impartial investigation, accountability for the culprits and reparation for the damage caused to the victims, promoting a safe, ethical and violence-free educational environment.
