Just over 600 displaced young people living in the Meconta district of Nampula will benefit from short and long-term scholarships over the next five years.
The scholarships aim to minimize the suffering and trauma they have experienced as a result of the terrorist actions, according to Rádio Moçambique.
The initiative comes from the Sant'Egídio Community in Nampula, with funding from the German government.
Quoted by this radio station, the representative of the Sant'Egidio Community in Nampula, Américo Sardinha, said that 50% of the scholarship holders will be young women and 25% will be young natives of the Meconta district, which is hosting the displaced people.
Sardinha said that the idea of awarding these scholarships to young people is to encourage them not to join the ranks of the terrorists, who continue to destabilize some districts of Cabo Delgado province.
The Sant'Egídio Community is also building four new classrooms and an administrative block that will be equipped with furniture at the Mulapane basic school.
