The National Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (INGD) in Nampula needs 43 million meticais to respond to any emergency situations arising from the current rainy and cyclonic season..
This is the figure contained in the INGD contingency plan for Nampula, presented this Monday by the INGD delegate, Alberto Armando, at the twenty-third session of the provincial development observatory.
Alberto Armando said that of the forecasts made, Nampula province will see three scenarios: First, the occurrence of strong winds, localized flooding and lightning strikes, events that will run until the end of January.
The second and third scenarios are related to the possibility of floods and tropical storms that last until the end of the rainy and cyclonic season.
In these scenarios, the INGD estimates that more than 124,000 people could be impacted and that the money could possibly be used for humanitarian assistance in the first 72 hours after the events.
