Nampula: Power from the national grid reaches the administrative headquarters of Muatua

Nampula: Energia da rede nacional chega à sede administrativo de Muatua

The headquarters of the Muatua Administrative Post (PA), in Mogovolas District, Nampula Province, has already been connected to the national electricity grid since October 4, 2024.

This is a project financed by the Mozambican government for a total of 105 million Meticais, according to a statement from the company Eletricidade de Mocambique.

With the electrification of Muatua, the number of electrified Administrative Posts in Nampula Province has risen to 56, from the existing 70.

The government's Program for the Electrification of Administrative Posts plans to electrify a total of 135 APs, 94 of which will be connected through the National Electricity Network (REN) managed by EDM.

The other 41 Administrative Posts will be connected through Isolated Systems, under the management of the Fund

National Energy Fund (FUNAE).

Since 2020, 66 administrative posts have been electrified, 52 through the national electricity grid and 14 through alternative sources.

In terms of electrical infrastructure for the Administrative Posts, 140km of medium-voltage network, 40km of low-voltage network and 23 transformer stations were built this year.

To extend the electricity network to the Muatua Administrative Post, 35km of 33 kV medium-voltage line was built from the Namaponda Administrative Post headquarters.

The project included the erection of 5 Transformer Stations (PTs) of 100kVA each; the construction of 10km of Low Voltage Network and the erection of 150 Public Lighting Lamps. In the first phase, this project will benefit 800 new consumers.
