Nampula: Dois polícias apoderam-se de droga apreendida e decidem fazer negócio

The National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) in Nampula has arrested the head of the Lumbo Police Station and of the Municipal Police operations in the Mozambican island city, on charges of drug trafficking. They allegedly took possession of seized drugs and decided to do business.

"We received information on the 27th that in the district of Ilha de Moçambique, specifically in Lumbo, there was a house suspected of having a product that was suspected of being drugs. We formed a team of agents who went to the scene and ended up recovering 37 packages containing various drugs, in this case methamphetamine and heroin. In terms of weight, we're talking about 48.5 kg," explained Enina Tsinine, SERNIC's spokesperson in Nampula province.

Quoted by the newspaper "The Country"SENIC first arrested a young man who was found with a bowl containing the drug. According to the authorities, the young man was entrusted with the task of selling the drugs, and through him criminal investigators reached the suppliers, who are members of the police.

"The information he gave us led to the arrest of the head of operations of the Municipal Police [of the Municipality of Ilha de Moçambique], as well as the head of the Lumbo police station, who were believed to be the people who delivered it for sale."

The drugs were seized at a residence and instead of handing them over to the competent authorities for preservation as evidence and subsequent destruction, they saw a business opportunity.
