A 30-year-old man was arrested by the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) in Nampula on charges of producing, consuming and selling soruma.
According to a publication on the IkweliDuring a press conference, the detained individual claimed to be a producer and consumer of soruma, explaining that he had been using the drug to alleviate social problems, as well as to provide for his family.
"I've been growing soruma for three years for my own benefit, but I've also been selling it to several people close to me and to other young people who ask for it at the Anchilo administrative post and in other parts of the city of Nampula," he said.
The spokeswoman for the PRM in Nampula, Rosa Nilza Chaúque, said that his neutralization was only possible thanks to the efforts made by the corporation.
"This individual was arrested on the public highway while driving a motorcycle with at least 20 kg of soruma. The arrest took place at the Anchilo administrative post in the Nampula district," Chaúque explained.
Also as part of the anti-drugs operations, the PRM in Nampula also arrested a couple involved in drug consumption.
