Nampula: children from zero to two years of age receive a basic social subsidy

In Nampula province, vulnerable children, from zero to two years old, will benefit from a basic social subsidy, aimed at alleviating the poverty indexes of their families.

To this end, the Finnish government will provide 2.7 million euros in funding to the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, to strengthen the coverage of the basic child benefit.

It will be about 540 meticais per month, to be allocated to needy families, over a period of two years.

The UNICEF representative in Mozambique, Maria Luísa Fornara, said that the funding also aims at ending the high rates of chronic malnutrition in the country.

It should be noted that Nampula is one of the provinces that has recorded high rates of chronic malnutrition among children.
