The journalist-reporter for the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD), Sheila Wilson, was arrested earlier this afternoon in Maputo city while she was broadcasting live on the protests called by Venâncio Mondlane.
The arrest took place after a military guard from the Presidency of the Republic, on Julius Nyerere Avenue, snatched the reporter's cell phone during the "live".
The reporter was in the vicinity, precisely on the sidewalk that forms the traffic circle of the "Maríngué" Women's Detachment. She even said that the military were approaching. "The military are approaching me," she said.
After the cell phone was pulled out, the transmission continued for a few minutes.
On what is one of the main and longest avenues in the Mozambican capital, traffic was congested, with motorists honking their horns in obvious support of the protests called yesterday by Venâncio Mondlane.
Breaking news reports that the journalist has already been released and the return of her cell phone is being processed...
