Mozambican musician Jimmy Dludlu will be awarded the Career Award, during the 28th edition of the South African Music Awards (SAMA), to be held on the 28th of this month, in South Africa.

The award is for his contribution to the development of the South African music industry over the past two decades, according to a note published by the South African organ "Music in Africa". In the same document, the Recording Industry of South Africa, the official company that represents the recording industries in that country, described Jimmy Dludlu as "a source of pride, a treasure and an ambassador for music.

This is not the first time that the guitarist has been distinguished at this event. In 2016, for example, he won the award for Best Live Audiovisual Recording, with the work "Live at Emperors Palace".

A few days ago, he was appointed the first music ambassador of the African Diaspora Engagement Committee. Jimmy Dludlu was born in Inhambane province and lived part of his life in Chamanculo. He has stints in Eswatini and South Africa, where he founded with Frank Paco and John Assan the band Loading Zone, which accompanied musicians such as Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba, Brenda Fassie, and Sipho Mabuse.

During that period, Jimmy also recorded with Miriam Makeba on the album "Eyes on Tomorrow" and participated in the production of "Sun City Sax Appeal," appearing with Rene McLean, Winston Mankunku, Robbie Jansen, Victor Ntoni and the late Duke Makasi.

The highlight of that period was touring in Namibia on "Loading Zone" (1992), when they were seen by Papa Wemba, world music icon from Zaire, who later asked the band to support him on several dates in his country.
