A Member of the Voting Assembly (MMV) died on Tuesday as a result of a car crash in the village of Alto Molocué, in Zambézia.
The vehicles (trucks) involved in the accident were transporting MMVs to the polling stations and were heading in the same direction. The tire of one of the trucks burst, causing the accident. Two victims in a serious condition were taken to the rural hospital in Alto Mulócuè.
In Inhambane province, in the district of Morrumbene, the police were forced to use tear gas to quell a riot that broke out because the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration in the district was transporting improperly appointed MMVs.
In many places there was a rigged public competition for electoral posts, as required by law. Meanwhile, Frelimo appointed trainers and decided that they should also become polling station presidents. Morrumbene ignored this and tried to send staff to the polling stations, including the improper presidents. The opposition leaders objected and blocked the cars. STAE called the police, who sent in the riot police (UIR), who fired tear gas, and the STAE cars left for the polling stations. Renamo says that after the tear gas, there was nothing they could do but let the vehicles move on. It regrets that the CNE instruction, issued yesterday, is not being complied with by the electoral bodies in Morrumbene.
According to Renamo, fraud is inevitable and has almost taken place, even though there is a scrutineer at the polling station and a delegate.
Until yesterday, Frelimo continued to hold secret meetings with MMV presidents in order to bribe them with money and legitimize electoral fraud.
The amounts vary from 10,000 to 30,000 meticais, "but if it's an area where the opposition has more acceptance, they pay 30,000 meticais".
The idea is that Frelimo and its candidate will win the elections with 85% of the votes.
"That's the watchword. And they must also do everything they can to paint the opposition votes somewhere so that they are considered null and void," said a source quoted in the CIP's electoral bulletin.
